Scholarship Program Overview
Cisco believes there will be around one million cybersecurity jobs worldwide, but not enough qualified candidates to fill them.
The Global Cisco Security Scholarship (the “Scholarship”) provides an opportunity to ensure that applicants are equipped to enter the market for security. The Scholarship will aid in the workforce’s education, training, and reskill in cybersecurity operations to become the security IT experts needed to fill the huge talent gap.
The Scholarship will begin on June 14, 2016, at 8:15 a.m. and includes an official assessment of your skills. The first scholarship awards will be available later in the year and will be offered till there are no available scholarships (the “Scholarship Period”). Participation in this Scholarship requires an acceptance of the Official Rules. Cisco Systems Inc. administers the Scholarship, 170 West Tasman Drive, San Jose, CA 95134 USA (“Sponsor” or “Cisco”).
Scholarship Program Eligibility
The Scholarship is available to applicants (“Candidates” (also known as “you”) who are at least 18 years old when they apply for the application. The candidates must possess at least one of the following qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years old
- English proficiency
Basic competence (one or more):
- Cisco accreditation (CCENT or greater)
- Relevant industry-specific certification for relevant industry [(ISC)2, CompTIA Security+, EC-Council, GIAC, ISACA[(ISC)2, CompTIA Security+), EC-Council,
- Cisco Networking Academy letter of successful completion (CCNA 1 and CCNA 2)
- Minimum of three years combined experience in approuvé US military job roles
- Windows expertise: Microsoft (Microsoft Specialist, MCSA, MCSE), CompTIA (A+, Network+, Server+).
- Linux expertise: CompTIA (Linux+), Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certification, Linux Foundation (LCFS, LCFE), Red Hat (RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA), Oracle Linux (OCA, OCP)
- Looking to pursue a career path in IT cybersecurity
- In preparation to complete the training in the planned cohort (approximately four months)
- Are you willing to share your success story
The Scholarship is not available to:
- The immediate family or the members of the household, any employee
- anyone who is involved professionally in the creation or administration of the Scholarship
- employees or internally contracted vendors of governments and government-affiliated companies or organizations, including US public sector federal (including the armed forces), state, local, or education (K-12) related government organizations; or
- Any employee whose employer is guidelines or regulations don’t permit admission to the Scholarship or the acceptance of the award awards(s)
- Individuals who were previously awarded the Scholarship during a previous cohort
- Anyone who was permanently excluded by the earlier applications.
Additionally, people living in the Balkans, Belarus, Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Myanmar (formerly Burma), North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen as well as Zimbabwe do not qualify to apply. The Scholarship is not available in these countries, and in countries where it is, the program is otherwise restricted or prohibited by the law.
In the event that you’re a third-party that is currently doing business with Cisco, for example, an employee, vendor, partner, customer or supplier provider, you warrant you are a participant with the Cybersecurity Scholarship Program will not limit your independence regarding your relationship to Cisco and that it will not cause any conflict of interest whether real, possible or apparent.
How to Enter Cisco Scholarship Program
You will be required to fill out an online form and provide proof of your requirements.
- The Candidate will verify his/her eligibility and submit the application available at cisco.com/go/securityscholar. Cisco will send a receipt along with instructions on the next steps.
- Cisco will evaluate Candidate qualifications, and if they are accepted, the Candidate will be offered the chance to take an online test to verify that they have the knowledge of the security basics to begin training.
- Cisco will review the tests and choose the scholarship recipients.
- Cisco will send a congratulatory message, along with an access link to an online portal for Scholarships for the delivery of curriculum programs.
- After training begins, the program lasts for approximately the duration of four (4) months to complete training and certification.
- Cisco will provide scholarships for up to 10,000 (10,000) students on a first-come, first-served and abilities acceptance basis. Cisco will be recruiting new students as and when needed, up to the point that there are no scholarships available.
Submission of entries must take place during the scholarship period. The Sponsor is not accountable for lost, late, or damaged entries, delays or misdirected entries, as well as incomplete, invalid, corrupted entries, garbled, unreadable or unintelligible entries or for any other issues or bugs that applicants may experience when making their submission. Only valid entries that are complete are accepted. The Sponsor will not confirm the submission of entries. Candidates must submit all details required to be eligible to be a participant. The Sponsor reserves the right to refuse entry entries with false information or entries believed to be false. Incomplete, inaccessible entries that are not understandable at the sole decision of the Sponsor is rejected. All entries are the exclusive property of the Sponsor and cannot be acknowledged or returned.
The Candidate will be assessed, which will evaluate concepts in network security, network concepts such as cryptography, host basis analyses, monitoring of security techniques for an attack such as endpoint threat analysis, computer forensics as well as network intrusion analysis data and event analysis and incident management.
Participants will be ranked based on the skills assessed by the assessment as well as the commitment of the Candidate to complete the course in four (4) months.
Award for Scholarships Subject to the provisions of the Official Rules after confirmation by the Sponsor, the

Every Candidate selected will receive an e-learning course to become certified as Security Operations Center Analyst. Security Operations Center Analyst.
The self-paced online learning training is comprised of one.
- Cisco Networking Academy course (“Introduction to Cybersecurity”)
- Cisco CCNA Cyber Ops courses (“Understanding Cisco Cybersecurity Fundamentals” [SECFND along with “Implementing Cisco Cybersecurity Operations” [SECOPS” Implementing Cisco Cybersecurity Operations” [SECOPS)
- Tests (210-250 SECFND and 210-255 SECOPS) as well as coaching and mentoring. This is the largest financial investment in the future of the learner. Cisco will run the course in partnership with the key Cisco authorized learning partners who will offer the mentorship and coaching. The materials for the course are provided in English. Further terms and terms could apply to the course and activities related to it.
One (1) scholarship per applicant. The approximate value of the retail price is subject to change depending on marketplace conditions prior to award acceptance. The recipients are not entitled to any excess between the real price (ARV) of the scholarship award and the stated ARV, and any differences between the stated ARV and the actual value of the scholarship award cannot be granted. The swap or assignment, transfer and/or cash-redeeming of scholarship awards is permitted by the recipient. The Sponsor reserves the right to replace a scholarship award with another award of the same or greater value in the event that the award advertised as a scholarship become unobtainable due to any reason. If appropriate, scholarships can be given by way of voucher(s), coupon(s) or gift card(s) at the Sponsor’s discretion. Choice.
If a potential student is unable to take part or accept the award or any part of the award due to reasons beyond their control, the Sponsor will not be held accountable to the prospective participant. The Sponsor and none of its suppliers of scholarships will be able to replace lost or stolen awards, cards or certificates following the time they are given to the participant. In no case will the Sponsor be held responsible for not awarding more than the specified amount of scholarships.
NOTIFICATION OF PARTICIPANT(S)
Participants will be informed via email at the Sponsor’s discretion. The decision of the Sponsor is final in all things. Sponsors may also provide prospective participant(s) the declaration of eligibility, liability or publicity release (“Release”). If not restricted by law, prospective participants who are provided with Release may be required to sign and return it within the period stipulated in the document. The Scholarship may be forfeited. In the event of a forfeit, a possible alternative participant could, at the discretion of the Sponsor, be chosen among the remaining entries eligible for selection (using the criteria outlined above) in the event that a prospective participant (i) is not able to meet the requirements; (ii) fails to receive every signature required on the Release or in return documents on time as per these Official Rules or (iii) is unable to accept or accept the award due to any reason. The scholarship awards will be distributed to the participants as soon as possible after the notification (and acceptance of the Release and associated document and related documents, if required).
CONTENT AND LICENSE TERMS
Originality Participating in the Scholarship, the applicant confirms and warrants the content of their entry.
- It is unique and was legally created. The Candidate has all the rights to their entry.
- Does not violate the intellectual privacy, property, publicity rights, or any other moral or legal rights of any third-party
- Has not participated in any previous scholarship or received an award previously or prize previously. It has also not been published or distributed before in any form.
- Meets in all respects the guidelines set out within this Official Rules.
Rights of third parties: No part of any post may feature the recognizable marks of third parties, copyrights, brands, trademarks, or any other rights unless the Candidate has all the necessary licences. The entry should not contain any elements that infringe on the rights of any third party (intellectual property or not) and should not include commercial content that (1) advertises any product or service that is not that is owned or branded by the Sponsor or (2) discredits Sponsor and its affiliates, partners customers, competitors or any third-party in any manner. The determination of the Sponsor on whether the submission of a candidate could infringe an individual’s rights or rights are the sole and final decision.
Authorizations and Releases Candidate acknowledges and agrees that they are accountable for obtaining any and all documents such as policies, authorizations, and policies required to submit the application to the Sponsor for the Scholarship, which includes but not only publicity releases, permissions and venue authorizations which may be required and the Candidate affirms and guarantees that he has obtained all the necessary permissions and is able to submit written copies of the permissions accessible to sponsor upon an inquiry.
If relevant: The Candidate affirms and warrants that is authorized by every person whose name, image, likeness, or voice (“Likeness”) is used in the entry and that the person(s) has granted the Candidate the necessary rights to use their likeness according to these guidelines, and that the Candidate is able to make written copies of the permissions to the Sponsor on the request of the Sponsor. If the likeness of a minor is part of the entry in the entry, this grant of rights must be signed by the minor’s legal guardian or parent consenting to the minor’s image in the name of the minor. Candidate warrants and represents that he has received written permission prior to filming or taking photographs of any portion of their participation on private property that is not managed or owned by the Candidate in the event that permission is required.
Additional Content Restrictions: The Candidate’s entry must not contain any theme or content that might upset parents whose children are young when they are viewing the entry. It also must not include explicit nudity or explicit sexual activity such as violence, violence or drugs, or any reference to the similar.
Licensing Grant: In submitting any entries in the Scholarship, Candidate irrevocably grants Sponsor and its affiliates, as well as legal representatives and assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, unconditional perpetual, irrevocable, and unrestricted rights and permission, royalty-free to reproduce and store, encode copies and transmit, as well as publish the submission, publish, broadcast and display, perform publicly and exhibit, modify and/or use, or reuse (without restriction as to the time or the amount of times it is used) for any purpose and for any purpose whatsoever, including the Candidate’s entry as well as the ideas and information included therein, which includes as well as any recordings or performances included therein (in every instance, in the form submitted or altered in any manner by the Sponsor at their sole discretion) as well as to make use of the Candidate’s likeness or any statements made regarding their participation in the Scholarship (with or without the name of the Candidate) in any and every medium, without restriction as to the time period or location and without any additional compensation or permission by any other party, including the Candidate and/or any other third party. A candidate is releasing all rights to intellectual property and privacy/publicity rights as well as other moral or legal rights that may hinder the use by the Sponsor of the submission and agrees to bring any suit or claim against the Sponsor based on any use made of Submission or the Candidate’s Likeness, or other statements. The rights granted under the Official Rules includes all rights of integrity, paternity, disclosure and withdrawal, as well as the rights which might be known as “moral rights” (“Moral Rights”). In the event that Moral Rights cannot be assigned in accordance with applicable law, then to the maximum extent permitted by law, the Candidate waives any such Moral Rights in favour of the Sponsor and agrees with any action by the Sponsor that is in violation of these Moral Rights in the absence of this consent.
The Scholarship is subject to federal as well as state, and local laws as well as this Official Rulebook.
The participant is solely responsible for all taxes imposed by the local government, province, national or other taxes that are applicable, as well as any other expenses, costs and fees associated with the award of the Scholarship. If appropriate, the participant(s) might receive the IRS Form 1099 or other tax documentation to indicate the estimated retail value of any scholarship award.
Candidate grants permission to sponsor and its authorized representatives to use his/her name, address (city and state/province/territory/country), photograph, voice, and/or another likeness for advertising, trade, and promotional purposes without further compensation, in all media now known or hereafter discovered, worldwide, and on the Internet and World Wide Web, in perpetuity, without notice, consideration, review, or approval.
After the scholarship period, the Sponsor will not be required to keep documents of any entries.
Participants, the Candidate: (a) agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which will be final and binding. In addition, (b) disclaims all right to assert an ambiguity in these Official Rules. Scholarship and this Official Rules, except where legal restrictions prohibit it. Once submitted, an entry is not refundable or cancelled.
The Candidate acknowledges that the Sponsor has not made, nor is accountable for or responsible for any representation, warranty or assurance, either implied, either in reality or by law, in relation to any award of Scholarship or Scholarship. The Sponsor disclaims all warranties, and every potential applicant will accept the offer “AS IS.” Any costs or expenses that are related to support services that are not explicitly mentioned in the award of the Scholarship are the responsibility of the individual.
If there is disagreement regarding the origin of an Entry, the account owner for the account using an email for entry is deemed to be responsible for the entry. A person who is the person who is the authorized “account holder” is the natural person who is assigned to an email account by any Internet access provider or online service provider, or any other entity that is responsible for assigning email addresses to the domain that is associated with the email address submitted.
In accordance with the applicable law, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to (a) suspend, end or modify the Scholarship as well as the Official Rules for any reason at any moment and without any obligation and (b) restrict or limit the participation of the Scholarship on the notification.
All candidates are accountable for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, rules or contractual limitations and/or corporate or office policies, if applicable, concerning the Candidate’s involvement in trade promotions or accepting scholarships for promotional purposes. In submitting this Scholarship, the Candidate affirms that he or she has not violated any of these and has received the permission of their employer to take part in the event of a conflict. If a person isn’t allowed to accept an award for a Scholarship, the applicant may return the award to the Sponsor, and the Sponsor will reimburse the cost of the shipment according to the circumstances.
Utilization of any device that is automated or programmed is not permitted. The creation or use of multiple accounts to register and/or participate in the Scholarship is strictly prohibited. If the Scholarship makes use of or requires the use of any third-party site (e.g. social media platforms or sites that allow for broad communication or collaboration and/or the posting of videos), You acknowledge that this Scholarship does not have the sponsorship of any of these third parties and accept to adhere to the rules that are posted on the Website (s) in the event that they are applicable. The Sponsor reserves the right to expel any Candidate that it believes is interfering with the process of entry or the administration of the Scholarship or in violation of the Official Rules or acts in a non-cooperative, disrespectful, disruptive or abusive manner. The Sponsor also is entitled to terminate the Scholarship in the event it suspects fraud or has other reasons that are beyond the control of the Sponsor. Any disputes regarding these Official Rules and/or the Scholarship will be determined by the law of California.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOLARSHIP. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY FEES) TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
The Sponsor does not assume responsibility for (a) late, lost and/or misdirected entries, inaccessible or incomplete entries caused by system error or malfunctions, defective transmissions, or other telecommunications issues and/or entries, (b) technical malfunctions of any nature; (c) failures of any devices or programs that are associated with or used for or used in the Scholarship; (d) unauthorized mechanical or human intervention in any aspect or process of submission or Scholarship administration (e) human or technical mistakes that could occur during administering the Scholarship or in the processing of entries, and (f) other circumstances beyond the control of the Sponsor. The Sponsor will not be responsible for any injury or damage to any candidate’s or anyone else’s computer that results from participation in the Scholarship program or downloading the materials, or making use of the Website.
If for any reason, the Scholarship cannot be completed as planned by the Sponsor, the Scholarship will be cancelled. Being conducted as intended by the Sponsor, such as the occurrence of computer viruses bugs, bugs, tampering fraud, unauthorized intervention technical problems, or other causes that in the sole judgment of the Sponsor may corrupt or impact the administration, fairness, security integrity, security, or operation of this Scholarship The Sponsor is entitled at the sole discretion of Sponsor to terminate, cancel or terminate, alter, or even suspend the Scholarship. If the Scholarship is terminated prior to the expiration date period of the Scholarship Period due to reasons outlined above announcement will be made on the Scholarship website. Additionally, any or all scholarships may, at the sole discretion of the Sponsor, be given to prospective applicants to be chosen (using the criteria for judging outlined in the preceding paragraphs) from the entries that are uncorrupted prior to the date of the change or cancellation.
The Sponsor is not responsible to any candidate or any other person in the event that the Sponsor fails to provide any scholarship award, or any portion thereof, due to the reason of the award becoming, due to reasons beyond the control of the Sponsor, unobtainable or unaffordable to award or due to any other force majeure situation that results in equipment or technical malfunction or malfunction, terrorist act such as labour disputes or terrorist acts, an act or omission of any kind (whether legal or not) or interruption in transportation or civil disturbances or any other reason like or different that is beyond the control of the Sponsor.
LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY AND RELEASE
THE CANDIDATE AGREES THAT SPONSOR, ITS AFFILIATES, DIVISIONS, SUBSIDIARIES, RESELLERS, DEALERS, DISTRIBUTORS, ADVERTISING/PROMOTION AGENCIES, AND ALL OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND AGENTS (“RELEASED PARTIES”) WILL HAVE NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR AND WILL BE RELEASED AND HELD HARMLESS BY CANDIDATE FOR, ANY CLAIMS, LIABILITIES, OR CAUSES OF ACTION OF ANY KIND OR NATURE FOR ANY INJURY, LOSS, OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES TO PERSONS, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DISABILITY OR DEATH. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, EVERYTHING ON THE SITE AND IN CONNECTION WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. SOME JURISDICTIONS MAY NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, IN WHICH CASE SUCH LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION SHALL APPLY ONLY TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE LAW IN THE RELEVANT JURISDICTION.
Candidate acknowledges and agrees that the Sponsor can make use of this Scholarship (including any submitted) for advertising, publicity or any other purpose for marketing and in any medium and may include their name and likeness or the name of the city and/or the information about scholarship awards of prospective participants in this publicity, without further payment to potential participants.
